I actually thought this was quite slow moving and a bit boring especially in the beginning, middle, and up until close to the ending. Most of this story was about Kat, Grace's mother, and what a bad ass sociopath tough woman she was and is, and yes, the story did talk about the mysterious death of Grace, but mostly about her mother. It just dragged on and on and on. Just my opinion.
I’m such a huge fan of Denzil’s that my only complaint is, when she releases a new book, I know I won’t be able to sleep for a couple nights. This is the best book she’s written, and she keeps getting better with each one, I can’t wait to read what she releases next. She’s captured the mother/daughter relationships so well in this one, I had to stop reading for a bit because it all felt too close to my personal relationships (no spoilers). Loved it loved it loved it! I’m a fan for life :)
Sarah A. Denzil has become one of my favorite Authors. I've read all her books and this one didn't disappoint! It was a gritty twisty read with deeply developed characters and a plot that will keep you turning pages, it also has a very satisfying ending. I highly recommend this book!
Good book about two women and their children both have things to hide and as all their lives progresses terror and death follow.
I enjoyed this book. At times I was bored but I never abandoned reading it. The mother-daughter relationship is complex.
This is a great book. It definitely puts the reader in the shoes of the narrator. There is never a moment that it is crowded with too much thought. Very well worded and consistent. I tryly enjoyed this book and had a hard time putting it down.
Can a sociopath love? Not usually.Vaguely reminiscent of Thirteen Reasons Why, Only Daughter started off with a bang. The prologue is gripping, haunting, and a parent's worst nightmare all rolled into one.Although police are convinced Kat's daughter, Grace, committed suicide by jumping into a quarry, Kat vehemently disagrees. An interesting twist about Kat? She's been diagnosed as having antisocial personality disorder...and following Grace's death...she's out for blood. As Kat delved into her personal investigation, I was genuinely intrigued. While I thought her character, at times, seemed a little too "evil villain-esque," the concept of a parent having a severe, and potentially dangerous, behavioral disorder was a new spin for me...and one I enjoyed. I was very vested in seeing just where this story took me. And until approximately the 75% mark, it was a very fun ride. Unfortunately, it then fell a little flat. Most of the "twists" weren't overtly shocking, and the conclusion seemed more than a little mundane.Regardless, this book is worth reading, if for no other reason than for our narrator, Kat--a very memorable character, indeed.3.5 stars**Thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture, and Sarah Denzil for my advanced reader's copy!
‘Your daughter is dead.’ When Kat Cavanaugh hears the words every mother dreads, her perfect world shatters. It can’t be real. And then the police add the word ‘suicide’. But Kat refuses to believe them.Even when they show her the familiar looping handwriting and smudged ink on the note her little girl left behind. She knows her bubbly, vivacious daughter would never take her own life. Kat’s determined to find out what really happened to Grace on the night she died, whatever it takes…The second I read the description of this book, I knew this would be one that I really wanted to read. It's a fast paced read and the whole time I kept thinking how much of a nightmare this would be for any mother! I read the author's other book, Silent Child, and loved that one so I knew I'd love this one too.Thank you #NetGalley for the ARC of #OnlyDaughterPub Date: 13 Mar 2019
