The story pivots between the depression era and present day in Cottonwood Georgia.Secrets from the past come to roost in the present when the town of Cottonwood begins some major renovations to bring the dying community back to life. As always,Eva Marie added unexpected twists in the plot that made me smile.She captured the mind-set and morality of Stella's youth and led the reader to unconsciously compare it to the modern world.While being tastefully written, it nonetheless captures the raw feelings that drive the story. Well-researched settings and historical tidbits make this story more than just words on a page. The importance of family, choices and yielding to God's will are explored in the lives of Jo-Lynn's family.This adventure stays in your mind after you set the book aside and calls you to hurry back to Cottonwood to find out what happens next.Things Left Unspoken: A Novel

I only ever give 5 stars if a book is outstanding and while I can't say this book is, it is still one of the best I've read for a while. I like the slightly convoluted story and family history with its hidden secrets. A quote I've recorded in my journal more or less sums up this book..."God takes the messes we make in our lives and turns them into something good if we let Him" Definitely was worth reading.

I thought the book was good overall, but I have to admit there were quite a few times that I was tempted to put the book down in the beginning because I just couldn't seem to get myself into the story. However I'm glad I stuck with it because I thought the ending was very powerful! It was amazing to see the research the author did for this book since it's fictional! How the story was written I would have thought the characters were actual people who lived at one point in time! I also really enjoyed how she gave the reader a head's up on some things because she told the story of a young Stella which later gave clues to the reader about her relationship with Valentine as well as the folder "Thursday Nights" since Jo-Lynn didn't know the information yet. Once I got into the book I couldn't put it down! I'm not a big mystery fan, but there was just enough suspense that kept me wanting to more! Overall a pretty good read if your looking for a historical novel with some suspense!

I expect to read this story over and over again. It will join those books that I truly treasure. There are characters that are finely drawn out and developed........Valentine and Stella, Percy, Uncle Jim.......I could go on and on. Excellently written, I highly recommend this book. You will love it!

Could not put it down, well, unless cleaning, paying bills and laundry took precedence...nope, they could wait...and they did! Looking for her next book , but promising to at least fix dinner before I start it. Gripping from beginning to end.

Highest rating! I really enjoyed the book. Loved the suspense in her taking on the project of the big house. The romantic parts and I'm glad that it ended with the husband and wife finally figuring out that they loved each other enough to stay together.
